Gullet Wood sound sculpture October 2007

gullet wood sound sculpture

A ceramic sounding chamber beneath the ground amplifies the sound of water dripping. Copied from a Japanese idea the 'suikinkutsu' . By honing one's ears to catch these delicate sounds, the sonic landscape of the surroundings is brought into sharp focus - leaves, rain, birdsong. The words 'the sound of all things in nature' is inscribed in stone nearby together with other small relief carvings. Gullet wood is part of Wooplaw community woodland near Galashiels which has supported a variety of outdoor artworks.
